As a nonprofit theater dedicated to illuminating the American experience, we rely on the generosity of donors to support our award-winning productions as well as our innovative educational and community engagement programs.  Ticket sales only cover 40% of our costs, making our supporters crucial to delivering great work to our stage. We can’t do it without you.

With longstanding ties to Sierra Madre and the greater San Gabriel Valley, we remain committed to engaging a diverse audience and inspiring the next generation of artists and theater lovers.

Give the Gift of Live Theater to School Children

Each winter/spring approximately 2,000 students from school districts around Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley experience the joy of live theater through our Theater for Young Audiences program. Charlotte's Web, scheduled to begin performances on March 30, 2020 at Sierra Madre Playhouse, has been canceled. The financial impact to the production because of the recent passage of Assmebly Bill 5 (AB-5) by California forced the cancellation. See the full statement by the Playhouse President, David Gordon, and the company's Artistic Director, Christian Lebano, here.

By offering deeply discounted tickets to public schools, SMP offers opportunities for schoolchildren to experience a children’s play or musical on stage, followed by conversations with the cast and director, and robust educational programming led by an experienced theater educator. Past productions include A Wrinkle in Time, Charlotte’s Web, Einstein is a Dummy and Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Our Theater for Young Audiences program extends and amplifies classroom learning --- and for many local students, this is the first play they’ve ever seen. Since 2014, Sierra Madre Playhouse has welcomed nearly 4,500 students from 10 school districts around the region to more than 50 special weekday matinees.

Participating students learn about the process and teamwork involved in telling a story on stage, and each teacher is provided with a study guide for reading the book with their students. Lessons are standards-based and engage students in multiple subjects, from Language Arts to STEAM.

Help us inspire the next generation of theater lovers and sponsor one or more students, or even a whole class! Help up keep the TYA program going strong by sponsoring a student ($15), a carpool ($75), a class ($450) or a performance ($1500).

Every gift counts and will bring the joy of live theater to more students!
