Indradeep Ghosh

Violin

Titled as “Prince of Violin” Indradeep Ghosh, is one of the premier Hindustani Classical Violinist and Violist (Bass Violin) of India and a trailblazer for Maihar Gharana. He is an “A” grade artist of All India Radio and Television. He initially started playing violin at the tender age of six under the guidance of Sri Anamitra Mustafi. He has been under the tutelage of Professor Smt. Sisirkana Dhar Chowdhury since 1991. He also had the privilege of getting training with different maestros of Indian Classical Music including Pandit V. G. Jog and Pandit Kumar Bose.


He is gifted with a unique creative musical ability, which can be seen in his performances. They can range from sweet and soothing to fascinating and thrilling, while showing excellent bow techniques and melodies. Indradeep is one of the few Indian Classical violinists to play a custom made five-string violin with eight sympathetic strings, modeled after the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. The sympathetic strings allow for a fuller, resonant sound. His performances integrate many different styles and techniques of Western Classical and Oriental music. His style of playing can be described as a blend of Gayki and Tantrakari Ang with his fortes being taan and jhala.


Along the years, Indradeep has participated in several music festivals and concerts of India and abroad such as 10th Asia Festival in Spain, 42nd Europe Union Yoga Congress in Switzerland, YOMAD Festival in Croatia, Yoga—Vidya Music Festival Germany, Sawai Gandharwa Bhimsen Mahostav in Pune, Biswa Banga Sammelan, Baba Allauddin Memorial Festival, Salt Lake Music Festival, Dover Lane Music Festival in Kolkata, L'Arbre Qui Marche, festival Des Jardins Des Musiques in France, Learn Quest Music Festival, Tansen-Tyagaraja Music and Dance Festival in USA, and many more....


Indradeep also collaborated with western musicians such as Grammy Winner Kora player Mama dou Diabate, world famous rock band drummer Steve Smith and Jazz Organ Monster Tony Monaco to name a few.


He has to his credit many Classical and Fusion Music albums. He is the only Indian Violinist to release first-ever commercial VIOLA (Bass Violin) album titled “Tribute to Miyan Tansen on Viola”. He has also contributed to the album, Melodic Intersect: One Vision, which won the Akademia Music Award in January 2016 from Los Angeles.


He is the Artistic Director for Global Creative Arts Academy (GCAA), Houston, Texas. In 2019, he is appointed as “International Cultural Ambassador” by Alliance Clubs International.


He has created several new Ragas like Ganapati, Indradhanush, Hamsavahini & Gurushree which gained enormous appreciation, popularity and positive feedback from his fans and Global listeners.


He has served as Consul General and Chancellor General for South Asia by International Commission of Diplomatic Relations Human Rights and Peace which is an Inter- Governmental Organization of UN DESA; He also served as Goodwill Messenger of Peace, Arts and Culture, Chancellor, South Asia by International Special Court of Arbitration and Human Rights which is an Autonomous Arbitrations Institutions of the UN-IGO, ICC-ICA & ICJ. He is an expert panel member of Regional Selection Committee for CCRT Govt. of India.


Through Global Creative Arts Academy, City of Houston has recognized his contribution for promoting Indian Classical Art and Culture in Texas and honored him with a proclamation stating October 15, 2017 as Indradeep Ghosh Day.
