Many, and I do mean many, hours were spent on just the preparation for doing this set.
First, I had to research and gather images that I thought were interesting and might work. After collecting the best of the best and sorting through the photos, I had to make them all black and white, adjusting contrast levels for each one. This caused many of the first selected images to be disregarded.
Then, taking all my final images, I cropped them to a size suitable to the scale of the flats used on the set. Then combining them in different patterns,I had to make them all fit together on the workspace of the flats I built. But again, at this stage of the process, I found many of the images were not usable. So, back to researching for even more images. And the same process continued until I was finally happy with all the images.
It took a long time to assure that all the images stayed relatively within scale and tone.Once all images and sizes had been chosen,it was time to make images that could be projected onto the flats with an overhead projector, making the painting process easier and quicker.
